The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends enhanced enforcement of laws banning alcohol sales to minors. Enhanced enforcement involves checking to make sure that retailers are following laws banning alcohol sales to minors. It often involves “sting operations” conducted by or coordinated with local law enforcement or alcohol beverage control agencies. CPSTF notes that more research is needed to determine how changes in retailers’ behavior affect underage drinking.
