This statistical brief provides estimates of filled opioid prescriptions for people age 65 years and older in the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population. The estimates come from the 2015 and 2016 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Household Component. The brief gives estimates of any opioid use and frequent opioid use — defined as having at least 4 prescriptions filled or refilled in a year.
