The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends against screening for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults who don’t recognize or report respiratory symptoms. This USPSTF recommendation doesn’t apply to populations at very high risk for COPD, such as:
- People with a family history of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
- Workers exposed to certain toxins at their job
