The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends using clinicial decision support systems (CDSS) to increase HIV screening. CDSS include:
- Computerized alerts and reminders
- Clinical guidelines
- Condition-specific order sets
- Focused patient data reports and summaries
- Documentation templates
- Diagnostic support
CDSS use patient data and current guidelines to identify people who are eligible for screening and remind health care providers to order tests. CPSTF found strong evidence that using CDSS increases HIV screening in the general population and among people who are at high risk for HIV infection.
