About this resource:

In this Cochrane systematic review, the Cochrane Collaborative could not determine the effectiveness of using medicines to treat pregnant people with alcohol dependence enrolled in alcohol treatment programs. In these interventions, pregnant people take medicine to help them detoxify from alcohol by reducing withdrawal symptoms. Researchers didn’t find answers to their questions because there were no relevant randomized controlled trials. They noted that because of stigma related to alcohol use in pregnancy, recruiting for studies in this population is likely to remain difficult.
