These recommendations for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) testing are for all public-and private-sector health care providers. They update previous recommendations for screening pregnant women and are meant to:
- Increase HIV screening
- Lead to earlier detection of HIV
- Identify and counsel people who have HIV and don’t know it
- Link people with HIV to clinical and prevention services
- Further reduce perinatal transmission of HIV
