The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends child care center-based skin cancer prevention interventions that include sun protection policies and education for staff and parents. These interventions usually provide information about sun safety and the effects of ultraviolet (UV) light. Environmental and policy changes include things such as:
- Making sun-protective items, like sunscreen and protective clothing, available
- Adding sun-protective features, like shade, to the environment
- Implementing sun-protective policies, like clothing guidelines and restrictions on outdoor activities, during hours when the sunlight is strongest
CPSTF found that these interventions can help protect children from getting too much exposure to UV light.
