The Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) recommends primary and middle school interventions to prevent skin cancer. These interventions usually provide information about sun safety and the effects of ultraviolet (UV) light. Environmental and policy changes include things such as:
- Making sun-protective items, like sunscreen and protective clothing, available
- Adding sun-protective features, like shade, to the environment
- Implementing sun-protective policies, like clothing guidelines and restrictions on outdoor activities, during hours when the sunlight is strongest
CPSTF found strong evidence that these interventions increase sun-protective behaviors and reduce exposure to UV light, sunburns, and formation of new moles.
