Vestibular Rehabilitation for Unilateral Peripheral Vestibular Dysfunction

About this resource:

Systematic Review

Source: The Cochrane Collaborative

Last Reviewed: October 2007

In this Cochrane systematic review, the Cochrane Collaborative found evidence to support vestibular rehabilitation for people with dizziness and loss of function from unilateral and peripheral vestibular disorders. Vestibular rehabilitation can involve:

  • “Desensitizing” the vestibular system
  • Learning to coordinate eye and head movements
  • Improving balance and walking skills
  • Getting more active
  • Learning about the condition and how to cope

Researchers didn’t find evidence that 1 form of vestibular rehabilitation is better than another.
