Summary
Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, which is important for healthy bones. People who get enough vitamin D and calcium may also have a lower risk for osteoporosis. But many people in the United States don’t get enough vitamin D. Eating foods with added vitamin D and taking supplements can help people get enough vitamin D. Encouraging people to use the Nutrition Facts label can also help them track their consumption of vitamin D.
