Summary

Pressure ulcers are very painful, and they can lead to life-threatening infections. Most people hospitalized for pressure ulcers in the United States are older adults. Appropriate care of older adults who are restricted to beds or wheelchairs can prevent most pressure ulcers — and finding and treating pressure ulcers early is key to preventing related hospitalizations.
