Summary

Older adults are at higher risk of having decay on the roots of their teeth. This can be caused by medication, health conditions, poor diet, or infrequent and ineffective brushing. Making sure more people have access to oral health services and teaching older adults and caregivers how to take care of their teeth — for example, by using fluoride mouthwash — can help reduce untreated root surface decay.
