The President’s Council is a federal advisory committee with a mission to improve the nation’s health by educating, engaging, and empowering people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity and good nutrition. The meeting, which was open to the public as well as livestreamed, provided the opportunity for the new members to introduce themselves and collectively discuss priorities to focus on for the coming year.

After welcoming Council members and guests, HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine announced the release of the Physical Activity Guidelines Midcourse Report: Implementation Strategies for Older Adults, which provides actionable guidance to help increase activity levels among people age 65 and older.

In addition to hearing from individual Council members and the Acting Executive Director of the President’s Council, Rachel Fisher, the meeting also included a presentation from the National Fitness Foundation, as well as a panel discussion moderated by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health, Rear Admiral Paul Reed featuring leadership from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Departments of Transportation and Agriculture, and the National Park Service, about how the Council can amplify federal efforts to promote nutrition and physical activity.
