Summary

Ear infections are the most common reason that children see health care providers. They’re also the most common reason that children get antibiotics, which contributes to antibiotic resistance. In addition, some children who get ear infections have temporary hearing loss and speech delays, and many need surgery. Training health care providers to prevent ear infections in children can help reduce frequent infections.
