The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (Dietary Guidelines) provides advice on what to eat and drink to meet nutrient needs, promote health, and prevent disease. It is developed and written for a professional audience, including policymakers, healthcare providers, nutrition educators, and federal nutrition program operators. The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) work together to update and release the Dietary Guidelines every five years. Register now to view the livestream of the sixth meeting of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. Scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 25, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET, and Thursday, September 26, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM ET, the Committee will use this meeting to share details on progress made since the fifth public meeting, including evidence review and synthesis, draft conclusion statements, and plans to finalize the Committee’s work, including its Scientific Report.

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025 identified calcium, potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin D as nutrients of public health concern because many of us do not get adequate amounts of these nutrients in our diets. Iron is also a critical nutrient for pregnant people and some infants. To help consumers and nutrition professionals identify which foods contain these much-needed nutrients, USDA and HHS have developed new tools that explain where to find calcium, dietary fiber, potassium, vitamin D, and iron in a variety of foods and beverages that meet a range of dietary preferences and cultural traditions.

Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking Requests Public Comment on Proposed Methodology for Alcohol Intake and Health Study

The Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking (ICCPUD) has announced a request for public comment on the proposed methodology it will use to complete its Alcohol Intake and Health (AIH) study. Public comments will help ensure the broadest evidence base and available data are considered in this study and that the methodology is scientifically rigorous.
